Brian Dixon, Little Down, Rangiora, Central Canterbury branch

Brian Dixon describes this 230-hectare drystock farm where trees were predominantly planted for shelter when large paddocks were sub-divided. Also small blocks of pine were planted on steeper land - these woodlots are highly valued for internal grazing and shelter at lambing and shearing. Trees also diversify farm income, and te farm is in a position to harvest every 2-3 years in perpetuity.
