Cultivars - Steuart

Selected by Steuart Welch. The tree is on Steuart's property north of Marton. Rust resistant, holds leaves into winter with good autumn colours, suckering. Possibly a P. trichocarpa hybrid.

I received the wood density measurements this week from Scion for the ‘Steuart’ poplar tree increment core from Angus Gordon's tree, Taihape (see the table below). The wood density is high for a poplar, and similar to that of the ‘Kawa’ poplar clone. There are a couple of photos of the tree attached. The tree DBH was 68.7 cm, height 24.3 m, and crown radius was 8.8 m.
